bicyclesandheadphones asked: Whenever I finish writing, I feel like what I wrote doesn't match what I had planned in my head, and that it doesn't get the message across. Are there any ways to shake this feeling?
Welcome to my life!!!!
To be honest, I’m not sure that some writers ever shake that feeling. It literally happens to me almost every time I write a poem. But I don’t think that that is necessarily a bad thing. The piece of writing, even if it’s not what we planned for or mapped out exactly in our heads and hearts, is still ours. It’s still beautiful and singular and absolutely worthy of our love and attention. There are, no doubt, traces of your *original* message in the piece. And even if those traces aren’t legible to you, once folks hear/read what you’ve written, countless new meanings will become possible anyway. So don’t sweat it. Keep going.

I appreciate your response. Your words are very helpful, and I thank you. Hearing that from an established poet such as yourself means a lot to me.
